PowerMP6 consists of multiple Intel Core duo processor boards, in a 19-inch rack. Both cPCI and VME formats are available.
Linux on Intel processors supports software productivity and portability through an extensive set of open source and commercial tools and libraries. The level of performance is scalable by selecting the number of processors (up to 8 boards in a 19-inch 10U rack).
Each processor has an independent Gigabit Ethernet interface for application I/O purposes.
All processors are connected through a backplane Gigabit Ethernet network.
PowerMP6 is delivered ready-to-use with all software pre-installed.
PowerMP6 software includes Jumpshot, a graphical tool for understanding the performance of parallel programs, made available by Argonne National Laboratory's Mathematics and Computer Science Division. Performance analysis of multiprocessor applications on PowerMP6 is simple.
It involves using an appropriate link option, running the program, and using Jumpshot for display and analysis. All calls to MPI communication primitives are automatically traced, and additional userdefined traces may be added as needed.
PowerMP6 provides an interactive interface to remote control and monitoring – including system reset, reboot, and access to system administration and configuration control – from any external computer equipped with a Web browser. PowerMP6 includes a hardware and software system management infrastructure based on Ethernet and TCP/IP protocols such as SNMP.
